Working with me

Working With Me

I offer a free 15-minute initial phone or video call so I can explain how the process works and we can decide if this is the right way forward for you and we feel we can work together. If I can’t meet your needs, I can try to refer you on to someone who may be better suited to you.

If we agree to work together, I will book you in for a first session assessment where I will find out more about you and your story. You will be greeted warmly, and empathically and I am always respectful and non-judgemental. From there, we will have as many sessions as you feel you need at a pace and frequency that suits you.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I use their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy: https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/ which ensures I am working ethically and safely, within the guidelines set out in this framework. I have regular supervision to oversee my work, for my professional and personal growth and to meet ethical requirements.

I am also an Accredited Registrant member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and information can be found here: https://nationalcounsellingsociety.org/counselling-directory/what-is-the-accredited-register

Humanistic (Person Centred, Existential, Gestalt)

Humanistic approaches identify and uphold the basic goodness of each individual, while at the same time recognising the adverse circumstances that may obscure these qualities at various stages throughout life. Every person has a unique way of perceiving and interpreting events.

Behavioural (CBT, REBT, DBT)

Exploring how the experience of thinking, reasoning and perceiving affects feelings and behaviours. Looking at irrational beliefs and how this can affect emotions and behaviours. Learning to challenge thoughts and feelings, and looking at emotional regulation.

Psychodynamic (Psychoanalysis)

The psychodynamic approach includes all the theories in psychology that see human functioning based upon the interaction of drives and forces within a person, particularly unconscious. The goals of therapy are for you to have self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behaviour.
